十二月一日の早朝にとどいたＥメールは、ユーゴスラビアからの英語俳句
五句。かぐわしく抒情的な作品である。これはその中の一つ。
戦火を潜りぬけて降ってくる一片の花びらを手に受けるような感動である。
十四日には
花の中風の吹き来る気配なし/ ヤスミンカ作・正子訳
さらに東欧の国スロベニアの俳句雑誌編集者からもＥメールで俳句が届い
た。
私たちの俳誌「水煙」では、四カ国語によるホームページを開設し、日本はもちろん世界の人たちと俳句を通して交流している。俳句の良さを知ってもらおうという思いからである。
こうしたインターネットの俳句は、学生俳句、国際俳句の三十数年の歳月から生まれたものである。愛媛大学では、ドイツ文学の川本臥風先生とイギリス文学の谷野予志先生から俳句を教わった。国際俳句は、元アメリカ俳句協会会長のウィリアム・Ｊ・ヒギンソン氏との交流が思い出される。（愛媛新聞/１９９８．１２．２９．）
急行の速度に入れば枯れふかし/ 西垣 脩
西垣脩は大阪の船場に生まれ、旧制松山高校時代は「星丘」に参加し、
川本臥風に俳句の指導を受けている。俳人としてだけでなく、現代詩人としての活躍も目覚しかったが、五十九歳の若さで急逝した。
川本臥風の大学での最後の教え子となった私は、そんないきさつもあって、氏の不在をしみじみ淋しく思う。
もう前のことになるが、この句に出会った私は、郷里を離れ松山に暮らす
私の心情そのままの句という思いがし、ひたすら驚いたのを思い出す。清冽な
句風で知られる氏のあたたかなさびしさが胸を満たす。
市街地の駅を出た急行が本来のスピードになるころは、車窓の景色もますます枯れを深めている。内に向かう精神は深くあたたかい。目に映るのは、茎折れ、ところどころに空を映す蓮田、風にさらされた田、すすきや千千の草草の
枯れ、寒さを纏う山々。それらは細やかにことさらに鮮明である。
こうしたすばらしい日本人の心を世界の人々に知ってほしいと願い「水煙」のホームページに氏の句を載せている。
情報学では日本を代表する西垣通氏がこれを見てくださったのは何という
巡り合わせか。魂の故郷を同じにする人々は、どこにいても集い合えるのであろうか。「脩・通」親子二代にわたるわれわれとの交流がインターネットの

Early in the morning on December 1, I received an e-mail from Yugoslavia, in which five English haiku were written. Above one is one of them. They are fragrant and lylic works. I had a strong feeling like that when I received a petal falling down from high in the air through a war fire.
On December 14.

And more, I received another haiku poems by the editor of haiku magazine in Slovenia, an east Europian country.
Our haiku magazine "Suien" is now opening the home page (http://www.shikoku.ne.jp/suien/) by four languages, and is communicating, of course, not only with Japanese people but with people all over the world. Our aim is to let people in the world notice the good quality of haiku. These internet haiku poems have come from the university student haiku, and international haiku through the days and years of over thirty years.
At Ehime University I was taught haiku by Gafu Kawamoto, Professor of German literature, and Yoshi Tanino, Professor of English literature. About international haiku I remembered the communication with Mr, William J. Higginson, the former President of American Haiku Society. (from The EHIME in Matsuyama/1998.12.29.)

Shu Nishigaki was born at Semba in Osaka. During his old-time Matsuyama high school days he joined "Seikyu", a haiku magazine by high school students and teachers, and he wrote haiku under the leading of Gafu Kawamoto, haiku poet. He played the active part both in haiku and in modern poetry, but suddenly he passed away when he was 59 years old, -- not being so old. I deeply feel the loneliness of his absence, because I have become one of the last students of his teacher, Gafu Kawamoto, at University. I remember the following. This happened long ago. When I came across this haiku, I thought this one was quite same as the feelings of myself who lived in Matsuyama far from my hometown, and was extremely surprised. My heart is filled with warm loneliness of him whose haiku are known as the haiku with clearness.
Around the time when the express runs in its own speed after leaving the station in the city, the scenery from the window also shows the deepness of withering than ever. His mind goes towards inside, and gets deeper and warmer. The things reflected in his eyes are; a lotus paddy-field with sharply bending stalks which reflects the sky in places, rice-fields exposed to the wind, withering of pampas grasses and thousands and thousands of grasses, and mountains clothed in coldness. They are detailed, and particularly clear.
We hope that people all over the world learn to understand the state of Japanese mind like this haiku. So we put his haiku on our home page by Suien (http://www.shikoku.ne.jp/suien/). Mr. Toru Nishigaki( Prof. of Tokyo University), who is very famous for his study of information , looked at the page about his father in our site. What a wonderful chance meeting this is! I wonder if those who have the same hometown of the soul are able to come together wherever they are. We have been communicating with "Shu and Toru" over two generations through the internet haiku.
